Voices of Impact

Real Stories from Youth, Mentors & Families

At Chicago Emerging Stars, our impact isn’t just measured in numbers—it’s measured in moments, growth, and lives changed. These are the voices of the youth we walk alongside and the families we serve.

Jaylan, 17

"Jaqueza isn’t just my mentor, he’s one of the realest people I know."

We’ve had so many laughs and good times, even when life was tough. He’s always got a smile on his face, even when I know he’s going through stuff too. That alone keeps me going. There were times I felt stuck, like nothing was working out, but he never gave up on me. He helped me get a job when I really needed it, even when it felt impossible. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without him. He’s more than just support. He’s family.

Mikel, 15

“Since meeting Jaqueza, the way I think and move has completely changed.”

I truly consider him a mentor. He’s always been there for me, even during my lowest moments. He constantly encouraged me to keep my head up and focus on doing positive things instead of getting caught up in negativity. I’ve grown so much, and it’s because of his support and guidance.

Keyonna, 18

“Being around Jaqueza has truly changed the way I see my future.”

Before meeting him, I didn’t think college was for me but his story, his leadership, and his belief in me made me see what’s possible. He introduced me to CPFTA and opened my eyes to opportunities I didn’t even know existed. One of the most important things he’s helped me realize is that if I put my mind to something, I can achieve it no matter how hard it seems. He’s taught me to stay true to myself, never let anyone change who I am, and always believe in my own voice. Because of Jaqueza, I see more for myself and for that, I’m truly grateful.

“Jaqueza is a game changer in this city.”

He brought 160 families together for Thanksgiving, but it wasn’t just about food. It was about love in action. At just 19 years old, Jaqueza is leading with purpose and proving that young Black men are not statistics—we are solutions.

Community Member – Turkey Giveaway

“It’s more than just a meal—it’s a reminder that we’re not alone.”

I woke up early to make sure I got this turkey, and I’m so glad I did. With a big family to feed, things can get tight. This event reminded me that people care—that we’re not forgotten.
