At Chicago Emerging Stars, we believe every young person—no matter their background—deserves the chance to shine. That belief drives everything we do.
We support youth ages 7 to 24 through mentorship, resources, and opportunities that help them grow academically, professionally, and personally. Whether a young person needs guidance, a support system, or just someone in their corner—we’re here.
This movement started with one teenager and one dream.
At just 14 years old, our founder Jaqueza Thomas told a teacher he wanted to help people. She paused and said, “I’ve never heard a student your age say that before.” That moment sparked a purpose that grew into a mission—and eventually, a movement.
Jaqueza grew up in some of the most underserved parts of Chicago. He faced challenges that many young people know all too well: growing up without a father, navigating negative influences, and struggling to find direction. But mentors showed up for him. They believed in him, guided him, and helped him see his own potential.
That life-changing support inspired him to create Chicago Emerging Stars—to give back what he received, and build what he wished existed for others.
Today, we’ve impacted thousands of lives through events, resources, and mentorship. But this is just the beginning.

Behind this movement is Jaqueza Thomas, a youth advocate, mentor, and community leader who knows what it’s like to grow up needing guidance—and now devotes his life to providing it.

Jaqueza founded Chicago Emerging Stars to be the very thing he once needed: a safe space, a source of support, and a springboard for success. As a proud South Side native, college student, and changemaker, he leads the organization with purpose, passion, and a heart for the next generation.
